Fireworks fly as Clinton, Sanders square off before NH

Clinton insisted that her regulatory policies would be tougher on Wall Street.

Those who have been following the Democratic primary race this season know that Senator Sanders has been creeping up in nearly every poll in nearly every place for the past month or so.

The poll appears to signal a dramatic tightening of the Democratic race following Clinton's razor-thin victory over Sanders in the Iowa caucuses.

But Mr. Sanders had a 44 percent/35 percent favorable/unfavorable split among voters overall, compared to Mrs. Clinton's negative 39 percent/56 percent favorable/unfavorable split.

Clinton reported that her campaign had raised $15 million in January " $5 million less than Sanders and the first time she's been outraised by her opponent.

Clinton beat Sanders narrowly in the Iowa caucuses, the country's first nomination contest ahead of the November election, but is expected to lose to him in New Hampshire.

"If you've believed that Hillary Clinton is going to win this election because other people are going to step up and take care of it, this should be a very loud wake-up call", a fundraising email sent by campaign finance director Dennis Cheng read. "Now, they're super PACs that Democrats like, so we don't go after labor unions, but this is a double standard". Asked whether she would release the transcripts of those speeches she said she was "willing to look into it" but didn't commit to doing so.

Bernie Sanders' closing statement in Thursday's presidential debate was one of the most striking speeches of his campaign so far. With the attention of a prime-time television audience, Clinton set about trying to vet Sanders' proposals on her own.

Sanders called for a "political revolution" that would include "major changes" in national priorities and in the Democratic Party.

Clinton's campaign also criticized Sanders' camp for what it said were misleading ads that suggest the senator received the endorsement of two newspapers that have not backed his bid for the White House.

The New Hampshire primary, in which Sanders has a sizeable lead, is just five days away and could provide another boost to his campaign.

And on the Republican side, Donald Trump is still leading - though Sen. And the former secretary of state will clearly have trouble next Tuesday in New Hampshire, where her campaign is already downplaying expectations.

'You lifted me up and gave me back my voice, ' Clinton said.

On foreign policy, Sanders renewed his criticism of Clinton for her vote as a senator to authorize the war in Iraq, a vote she later said was a mistake.

Clinton argued that Sanders had cast himself as the self-proclaimed "gatekeeper" who determined who was a progressive, using a definition that would exclude even President Obama and Vice President Biden. There are thousands of veterans, over 100,000 veterans living in the state of New Hampshire.
