Leicester boss Shakespeare: Let's hope the bookies have got it wrong again!

Atletico Madrid's head coach Diego Simeone

It could have been worse for Leicester.

The French worldwide put his previous penalty demons behind him to convert from the spot and put Atletico in the driving seat for a third semi-final in four seasons.

In the end, both teams came away from their Champions League quarterfinal match relatively satisfied and looking ahead to next week's second leg in England.

Diego Simeone, the Atletico coach, was clearly dissatisfied that they had not been able to win more convincingly.

Palace's best chance of the half came courtesy of Christian Benteke, who was able to outmuscle Danny Simpson to get on the end of a Joel Ward cross and force a save from Kasper Schmeichel, only for the ball to loop up and almost creep into the Leicester goal, coming off the post before eventually being cleared.

As it turned out the mistake came from the referee but the result was no less of a triumph for the tactical genius of Simeone, who has mastered the art of taking minimal risks to extract optimal results. In the knockout stages he averages 0.72 goals per game.

Unless a 1-0 deficit can be overturned on Tuesday, it's likely to be a long, long wait before the Champions League returns to the King Power Stadium.

"We don't know because we don't know how many points the other teams are going to get", Shakespeare told British media. England global Jamie Vardy scored in the second half in Seville to give his side a more realistic chance of a second-leg comeback.

Monday, bib number 17144 crossed the finish line thinking of the woman who came before her, and the ones that run alongside her. Switzer's coach in 1967 was a 15-time Boston Marathoner and didn't think a woman could do it - which energized Switzer to try.

They have every right to feel aggrieved too, as Antoine Griezmann's decisive 28th minute penalty was given in error - Marc Albrighton's challenge was clearly outside of the box. The referee made his decision - albeit the wrong one. "It is a definite foul but it is outside the box".

11 - None of Bayern's past 11 Champions League games have ended in a draw (W7 L4) since their last-16 match at Benfica last season finished 2-2.

The Belgian worldwide was denied, however, when Kasper Schmeichel raced off his line to close down the angle and the striker saw his close-range shot deflect to safety off the legs of the Leicester keeper. But it won 2-0 in the return game to keep its surprising run alive.

Leicester were also fortunate to encounter Fernando Torres on an off night, with the former Liverpool and Chelsea striker missing several chances, even ballooning one effort out for a throw-in. We know what we're about at the King Power.

Defender Robert Huth was booked in the second half and now misses Tuesday's return leg.

As expected the game began with Leicester, who were without injured captain Wes Morgan, happy to play deep in their own half and soak up pressure from the Spanish side.

LEICESTER are without veteran centre-back Robert Huth as they take on Atletico Madrid. "We knew we were walking a tight rope. Wes is taking more time than he thought and we thought".
