Talks the only way to resolve India-China row: Dalai Lama

"The external affairs minister meets with foreign minister of Bhutan Damcho Dorji on sidelines of BIMSTEC Foreign Ministers' meet", Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Raveesh Kumar tweeted and also posted a picture of the meeting.

This meeting also comes at a time when China has been upping the ante with its media blitzkrieg of opinion pieces and articles in the Chinese mouthpieces as well as regular statements from the Chinese foreign ministry "warning" India of dire consequences if it does not withdraw troops from Doklam.

The meeting was focused mainly on the standoff between the armies of India and China in Doklam in the Sikkim sector. "This is why we are standing with India", said Tashi Dhondup, the group's spokesman, adding that China was "illegally occupying" the area.

Official sources in the Bhutanese Government had told ANI over phone, "Our position on the border issue of Doklam is very clear".

However, experts view this as a manifestation of India's concern that road construction by Chinese in the Doklam tri-junction would have great security implications for India as it will give China an easy access to Siliguri corridor that connects India's north eastern part to the rest of the country. New Delhi is, however, firm on a pullout of troops from both sides.

Bhutan and China have held 24 rounds of talks to resolve boundary dispute, while India and China have completed 19 rounds of talks.

Bhutan and China have also agreed to maintain the status quo on the border as before March 1959 and abstain from taking any unilateral action or using force for the goal of altering the status quo of the boundary.
