Falcons survive scare from Lions 30-26

Though they struggled to slow the Falcons' running attack, they flipped the field more than often enough for Detroit to get the lead well before the game's final seconds. The Lions would work the ball down to the Atlanta 19 with 24 seconds left in the game. Sunday was a bit different, as Golden Tate caught a pass and landed in the end zone for what appeared to be the game-winning touchdown. And then after watching a few times I thought it could go either way. I didn't personally find out about the 10-second run-off until I was actually speaking to the referees and they brought it to my knowledge.

"Going to White House was an honour until you showed up", he said.

Because of the rule, there also had to be a 10-second runoff, which means the game ended without Detroit ever getting to run another play for a chance at a score.

They held David Johnson to just 23 yards rushing in three quarters before he left with a wrist injury in the season opener, then limited the Giants to 62 yards on the ground on Monday night. Jones took a vicious hit on the play from Ricardo Allen that drew a 15-yard penalty moving the ball to the Atlanta 45 yard line.

On the run: Jeff Saturday, who played center for the Indianapolis Colts for 13 of his 14 National Football League seasons and had Lions head coach Jim Caldwell as an assistant coach or head coach for 10 of them, likes how the Lions are being persistent with the run game.

On Twitter, the team pointed out it did exactly that while hurrying up against the Minnesota Vikings last season.

Quin has made one Pro Bowl (in 2014) since coming to the Lions as a free agent in 2013.

"Yeah, you can kind of look at it that way if you want, but they ruled it correctly", said Caldwell.

"The idea is to get it behind us as quickly as we can, and a lot of that has to do with just guys making up their mind it's over and done with", Caldwell said.

I wish Jim Caldwell would say something.

"We've played very well as a unit", Washington said. How Atlanta responds will be what makes a difference. If that's the rule, that's the rule.

For the Falcons, the win kept them at No. 1 in the power rankings going into their Week 4 matchup against the Buffalo Bills Sunday afternoon at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. We'll never know. But this is a moronic rule that must be changed. "I think that's the bottom line".

It's an bad end to a fantastic game, a gut-wrenching lawyerly decision to a game that was every bit as exciting as advertised. "The minute you start talking about what you think you've gotten done in this league, you end up getting your ears kicked in".

The Lions are the underdogs in this match but there's not that much value for them in a game where most fans are expecting them to lose. "That's really the bottom line".
