Michigan State AD Mark Hollis Announces Retirement Due To Larry Nassar Scandal

Searing victim testimony during former American gymnastics team doctor Larry Nassar's sentencing hearing has ratched up pressure on the sport's US governing body and Michigan State University to settle civil lawsuits by girls and women seeking to hold them responsible for his years of sexual abuse, legal experts said.

These included star Olympic gymnasts like gold medalists Aly Raisman and Jordyn Wieber, Michigan State athletes and other girls whose parents had sought him out based on his high profile within the sport.

Nassar was sentenced Wednesday to decades in state prison for molestations after an extraordinary seven-day court hearing where more than 150 women and girls gave victim statements or had them read in court.

It would be nice to think that this is the last time we hear about Nassar or any sexual assault case, but that just simply isn't true. Police estimate 400 to 500 people participated.

Gretchen Witmer, a Democratic candidate for governor, will speak, march organizers said on Facebook.

She said the university needed cultural reviews from "top to bottom". MSU athletic faculty representative Sue Carter announced earlier Wednesday.

Dianne Byrum said she had tried to work privately on the board to change minds, but realized in retrospect she should have spoken out. Our campus and beyond has been attacked by evil, an individual who broke trust and so much more.

The U.S. education secretary said her agency is investigating the Larry Nassar sex abuse scandal and will hold MSU accountable for any violations of federal law. He declined to say why the talks ended but said plaintiffs' lawyers were now preparing to go to trial. The report discovered a "pattern of widespread denial, inaction and information suppression" of sexual assault allegations.

The Michigan State University Board of Trustees voted at a meeting today to formally accept the resignation of President Lou Anna K. Simon, effective immediately. I've always been a Spartan, and always will be. "I grew up it Lansing", Lemke said.

They spoke directly to victims, as fathers, as women, as people who had pledged to care for students at this public university.

Following Nassar's sentencing, Michigan State University released a statement, saying, "We are committed to continue supporting those in our community affected by these awful crimes". "And it's because all of us had the courage to listen and the ability to say that we're going to make a change on this campus".

"We as students are the true Spartans", said Lemke Friday night. The school's president and athletic director have resigned.

And one of the protest organizers says the problem didn't start or stop with Simon's resignation. MSU trustees have asked Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette to begin looking into the case, and on Thursday, two Michigan House leaders demanded that MSU officials hand over reports from 2014-16 related to the sexual assault allegations against Nassar and are willing to use subpoena power to get them.

Some are likening to, where three senior officials, including the school's president, were sentenced to jail previous year for failing to tell authorities about a sexual abuse allegation involving coach Jerry Sandusky.
