USA diplomat resigns, says Suu Kyi lacks moral leadership

Aung San Suu Kyi's reputation as a human rights icon has been severely tarnished after her response to the Rohingya crisis.

He concluded that Suu Kyi is "not getting good advice from her team" and though he liked her and respected her "enormously" but she has "not shown moral leadership on the Rakhine issue and the allegations made, and I regret that". "I pity her because she seems to be caught in the middle being a Nobel Prize victor for peace and this is the ruckus now she is heavily criticized", Duterte said.

"We were talking about our country, the interest of our country.and I said, 'Do not mind the human rights [activists], they are just a noisy bunch actually, '" he said, according to Reuters.

She was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1991 for standing up against the military-backed government. She has experienced sustained global condemnation in recent months regarding her perceived silence over the exodus of Rohingya refugees from northern Rakhine's Maungdaw District following military operations there.

Duterte, Suu Kyi and their fellow Southeast Asian leaders are in India to attend the Association of Southeast Asian Nations - India Commemorative Summit and India's Republic Day celebrations, in what is widely seen as New Delhi's attempt to court the regional bloc in the face of growing Chinese influence. "There's a long history of the establishment of commissions that essentially serve to whitewash human rights violations in Rakhine state", said Matthew Smith, co-founder of the Thailand-based Fortify Rights.

Two demands on the list emphasize that the Rohingya people be included as one of the country's ethnic minorities and be given citizenship, a measure that has always been denied by the Myanmar government.

More than 655,000 members of the minority group have fled to Bangladesh to escape a crackdown by Myanmar's armed forces.

'Bored' German serial killer nurse charged with 97 more murders
The nurse worked at a clinic from 1999 to 2002 in Oldenburg, and from 2003 to 2005 in Delmenhorst , both in the country's north. German prosecutors made a stunning announcement Monday, charging Niels Hoegel with 97 murders of patients in his care.

Duterte spewed a fresh tirade against the United Nations, the European Union and human rights groups critical of his drug crackdown.

"A lot of these dictators, they dig their heels in, but after pressure and after negotiation and relating to them personally, we've had this success", Richardson said.

He said the United Nations was inutile for failing to stop killings and massacres.

"As far as I'm concerned, with all its inutility, it has not prevented any war, it has not prevented any massacre".

"The UN has no objective at all, actually, for mankind", Duterte said. "I could not be more clearer when I'm saying those things because if not, then we lose our country", he added.

"Until now, America once took - acting like the conscience of the people and - trying to police everybody". "United Nations serves no objective actually, for mankind...with all its inutility, it hasn't prevented any war, it hasn't prevented any massacre", Rappler quoted him as saying. "There's been too much emphasis on quick results rather than assuring that safety is guaranteed". Nobody is strong in a democratic country.
