Why Kesha's Grammys Performance Is So Important

Her song about empathy in the face of pain is the emotional highlight of tonight's awards. The track appears on her album Rainbow, which was nominated for Best Pop Vocal Album this year.

The singer and actress introduced Kesha's powerful performance by standing in solidarity with the "Time's Up" initiative, which was created to combat sexual harassment and assault across all industries.

But despite the stage being full of talent, it was Kesha who really shone throughout, as she delivered a rousing version of her song.

"After everything you've done / I can thank you for how strong I have become", Kesha sings.

For Kesha in particular, her story regarding Dr. Luke has played out in the press for years. During her appearance, we see countless types of women behind her: young and old, Black, white, and Latina. She released her third studio album, Rainbow, last August, marking her first album since 2012's Warrior. It was, as the Grammys voiceover told the audience before the previous commercial break, "a powerful Grammys moment from Kesha that speaks to our times". After Janelle Monae's assertive, insistent Time's Up speech, Kesha finally got the forum she was due.

Westbrook drops 37 points to lead streaking Thunder past 76ers
His left leg seemed to give way as he was beginning to jump for an alley-oop, and he landed on his tailbone or lower back. Could the Thunder deal for a replacement? Anthony entered Saturday against the Pistons needing 17 points to reach 25,000.

It was one of several political moments during Sunday's broadcast of the 60th annual Grammy Awards from New York City.

"When I wrote praying, with Ben Abraham and Ryan Lewis, I just felt as if I had gotten a huge weight off of my shoulders", she wrote.

Kesha performed at the Grammys surrounded by fellow stars including Cyndi Lauper, Bebe Rexha, Camila Cabello and Andra Day, who offered symbolic and literal support - belting out the song with her.

"This song is about me finding peace in the fact that I can't control everything - because trying to control everyone was killing me", she wrote a year ago.
