Pierre Agnes: Boardriders boss goes missing at sea in France

Pierre Agnes - the CEO of Boardriders, Quiksilver's parent company - set out aboard his motorboat on a routine fishing trip on Tuesday morning from Capbreton, a surfing resort in southwestern France.

The early reports also indicate that the 54-year-old executive sent a message to the local maritime authorities explaining that he was going to postpone his return due to the fog.

"An air and sea search operation is underway", the Landes prefecture said in a statement.

Mr Agnes, a father of three, joined Quiksilver in 1998, when the Australian brand began to expand internationally.

Japan's Coincheck to reimburse $535M lost in cryptocurrency hacking
This news comes as a bit of a shock to investors as CoinCheck is said to be the largest cryptocurrency exchange in Japan. While this is the biggest theft in cryptocurrency history, it's certainly not the first and will not likely be the last.

French authorities deployed four vessels and four helicopters on Tuesday to search for him after the boat was discovered run aground and empty on a beach along the French coast north of Biarritz.

Surfing legend Kelly Slater posted a photo of Mr Agnes, pictured above, to his Instagram page saying he was "praying for a miracle". The group includes Quiksilver, an iconic Australian surfwear brand as well as other such brands as DC Shoes and Roxy clothing.

Agnes, who has been with the iconic brand for almost 30 years, became the CEO of the now-struggling company in 2015.

Quiksilver, known for its surf wear, was founded in Australia but is now majority-owned by an American investment group and based in Huntington Beach, California.
