Sochi conference sees Syrian delegates agreeing on rewriting constitution

The United Nations special envoy to Syria, Staffan De Mistura, has said that Sochi talks over the future course of Syria have chose to create a committee that will work on a new constitution in the war-torn country.

"We all share the same goal: to see peace and stability restored in our homeland and to live peacefully side by side free from violence and terrorism in all its forms and manifestations", delegates of the congress said in a joint address published by the Russian Foreign Ministry.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres sent de Mistura to the two-day talks in the Black Sea resort of Sochi after the UN received Russia's pledge that the outcome of the Sochi talks would be brought to Geneva.

Ansari added that Iran called on Turkey to urge the different opposition groups to attend the conference, however it appeared that Turkey's influence was limited.

Russian Federation had reiterated that Sochi talks are not an alternative to the Geneva talks but as a booster to the United Nations peace process.
