'Heartless' Finsbury Park terrorist Darren Osborne jailed for minimum of 43 years

He has been jailed for life after killing husband and father Makram Ali when he drove a van into a crowd of Muslim worshippers in Finsbury Park, London, on June 19, 2017.

"This was a terrorist attack - you meant to kill", the Justice Cheema-Grubb said, handing him the sentence.

During Friday's sentencing hearing, Ali's daughter, Rosina Akhtar, said she could not describe the pain she and her relatives had suffered.

But she said it was "particularly hard" to hear Osborne launch into a freaky attempt to deny his crimes, claiming that a man called Dave had ploughed the van into Muslim worshippers in Finsbury Park.

Darren Osborne ploughed a hire van into a crowded pavement in north London shortly after midnight on June 19 previous year, killing Makram Ali, 51, and injuring 12 others.

Sentencing Osborne, the judge said he had become "rapidly radicalised over the internet, encountering and consuming material put out ... from those determined to spread hatred of Muslims on the basis of their religion" in the weeks prior to the attack.

The trial at Woolwich Crown Court heard that Osborne had become "obsessed" with Muslims and wanted to kill Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn and Mayor of London Sadiq Khan.

She added: "You hired a big van and the next day you took it from Cardiff to London, intending to deploy it as a lethal weapon to drive into and murder innocent people, lawfully assembled and protesting in London".

He was also found guilty of attempted murder.

"I would like to pay tribute to Mr Ali's family and the local community in Finsbury Park, for their tremendous support and understanding with our investigation during what must have been an extremely hard time for them".

He had appeared to justice in 33 occasions for 102 crimes in last 30 years.

Speaking with "passion and anger", he is said to have told the soldier: 'I'm going to kill all the Muslims, Muslims are all terrorists.

The Home Secretary said the Government would soon be publishing a new counter-terrorism strategy setting out its approach to tackling anyone who seeks to attack Britain, its values and way o life.

Witnesses denied this and said Osborne shouted "I've done my job, you can kill me now" and "at least I had a proper go" to victims and bystanders at the scene.
