Pentagon confirms it is planning a huge military parade

Pentagon spokesman Charlie Summers said Tuesday that Trump asked for the military parade, adding that the planning process was in its "infancy".

Trump said he was impressed by the military parade which involved United States and French soldiers marching together to mark 100 years since the USA entered World War One and France's annual Bastille Day holiday.

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders confirmed the request, saying Mr Trump wants the Pentagon to "explore a celebration" that will allow Americans to show appreciation for the military. He was reportedly dazzled by such a parade commemorating Bastille Day during a trip to France past year. As he marveled at the French president's show of "military might", Trump made what seemed like an outlandish promise: "We're going to have to try and top it".

What we really need to do is impress the world with the power of our democracy to do good, by accepting refugees from every corner of the world.

U.S. media linked the plan to Mr Trump's admiration for a military parade he attended in Paris in July past year.

Surrounded by the military's highest-ranking officials, including Defense Secretary Jim Mattis and Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Gen. Joseph F. Dunford Jr., Trump's seemingly abstract desire for a parade was suddenly heard as a presidential directive, the officials said.

Safety system install had signals out during deadly SC train crash
In December, three people were killed and dozens more injured when another train derailed near DuPont, Washington. The NTSB said investigators recovered video from a forward-facing camera on the Amtrak train .

"It was one of the greatest parades I've ever seen", Trump told reporters. "A military parade like this - one that is unduly focused on a single person - is what authoritarian regimes do, not democracies".

The bill proposed about US$66 billion be spent on USA military operations in Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria and other countries.

United States military members have, however, commonly participated in parades on July 4 and other holidays as a mark of appreciation of those veterans who have been killed or injured during conflicts.

The parade is believed to include Abrams tanks, fighting vehicles, missiles, and other high-tech military equipment rolling through Washington DC.

But the President found some support as well, mostly from his Republican corner. "We're going to have to try to top it, but we have a lot of planes going over and a lot of military might, and it was really a handsome thing to see, and representatives from different wars and different uniforms".
