Seaside Park Bomber Sentenced to Multiple Life Terms

An unrepentant, homegrown Islamic terrorist was sentenced to multiple life terms behind bars Tuesday for that injured 31 people in Manhattan's Chelsea neighborhood as part of a planned wave of attacks across NY and New Jersey. He still faces separate charges in New Jersey over those accusations.

Ahmad Khan Rahimi, also known as the "Chelsea bomber", set off the devices in Manhattan.

Ahmad Khan Rahimi, a naturalized USA citizen born in Afghanistan, was criticized by a prosecutor for failing to show remorse and was scolded by a victim for not apologizing to the 30 people he injured.

"We saw videos", he said, referencing multiple videos at his fall trial that showed Rahimi dragging bombs in two suitcases and a backpack through Manhattan streets, setting one down a half hour before it exploded in the upscale Chelsea neighborhood and another a few blocks away that was discovered and disabled before it could explode.

Though Rahimi pleaded not guilty, a 12-person jury found him guilty of all eight counts.

"I don't harbor hate towards anyone", Rahimi added at one point, "but through life experience, I have learned to understand why there's such frustration between the Muslim community overseas and the American people".

Rahimi's sentencing attorney Xavier Donaldson failed to sway the court with his proposed sentence of 180 months.

"She described Rahimi's efforts to radicalize fellow prisoners at the federal jail in NY where he has been imprisoned since his arrest".

Wearing blue prison smock and white cap Tuesday, Rahimi refuted these claims, telling the court that the fellow inmate was already "radicalized by Federal Bureau of Investigation agents when he was on the outside".

Berman approved restitution to victims at the sum of $562,803 as proposed by the government.

"The nature of the crime was heinous, wanton and's inexplicable that anyone would do that intentionally", U.S. District Judge Richard Berman said, according to CNN.

Rahimi used household goods to create a bomb packed into a pressure cooker and wired to a flip-phone detonator, which he placed on the busy NY street on September 17, 2016. "He failed", said New York Police Department Commissioner James O'Neill.
