Texans Get Compensatory Third Round Pick In 2018 NFL Draft

The most prominent player the Buccaneers have drafted using a compensatory pick is linebacker Alshermond Singleton, a 1997 fourth-round selection who started at strongside linebacker for the 2002 Super Bowl team.

The New York Giants may have surrendered a seventh-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft in exchange for cornerback Ross Cockrell, but based on the league's compensatory formula, they will also receive a fourth-round selection.

The Steelers now have seven picks including two fifth-round choices and two seventh-round picks. Their 218th pick is their last scheduled pick as of now.

New England got an extra fourth-round pick, which will be No. 136 overall.

Leading the way in compensatory picks, which are awarded to teams that lose more productive free agents than they added in the previous year, are the Cincinnati Bengals, Dallas Cowboys, Green Bay Packers and Oakland Raiders with four each. All but six of the picks awarded in 2017 came in Round 5 or higher, compared to just 14 this year.

The NFL did not count the team's signing of Martellus Bennett in the calculation of the draft pick distribution. In addition to the compensatory picks, the Vikings are slated to make selections in the first, second, third, fifth and sixth rounds.

Minnesota has not been granted a compensatory pick since the 2012 season.

The 2018 National Football League draft will begin on April 26 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, and it will run through April 28.
