Pakistan, India to attend TAPI groundbreaking ceremony

Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi along with President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, his Afghan counterpart Ashraf Ghani and Minister of State for External Affairs of India M.J. Akbar attended the groundbreaking ceremony at the Turkmenistan border with Afghanistan.

Construction has begun on the Afghanistan stretch of an ambitious pipeline that is to carry natural gas from Turkmenistan to Afghanistan, Pakistan and India. The successful accomplishment of the project would help accelerate pace of socio-economic activities in the participating countries besides creating direct and indirect employment opportunities.

The Afghan president in his address said Afghanistan will leave no stone unturned to implement the project. "We have full faith in Afghanistan's commitment to secure transmission and in the courage of its security forces - but the responsibility must also be shared", Akbar, said at the inauguration ceremony for the construction of the TAPI pipeline in Afghanistan's Herat on Friday.

The Turkmenistan president meanwhile stressed the need for increasing his country's cooperation with Afghanistan.

Heavy drinking causes most cases of early dementia, scientists find
Alcohol use disorders refer to the "chronic harmful use of alcohol or alcohol dependence", according to the study. The study identified 57,353 people who had cases of early-onset dementia (before age 65).

During the two-nation visit, the Prime Minister attended the link-up ground-breaking ceremonies of TAPI (Turkmenistan-Afghanistan Pakistan-India) gas pipeline project held in Serhatabad (Turkmenistan) and Harat (Afghanistan), respectively.

He said the implementation of the TAPI project was the "biggest achievement for the countries involved". Given these positive signals, it is hoped that the project would now be completed as per schedule and the four countries as well as the United States and other friendly countries would lend a helping hand in clearing hurdles, if any. Apart from contributing towards resolution of the problem of critical energy shortage in the region, it would also be a source of income for Turkmenistan, Afghanistan and Pakistan. It will achieve six percent growth this year and the CPEC would provide most efficient connectivity to the region.

Highlighting the importance of TAPI for Pakistan's energy needs, PM Abbasi informed the gathering that the project will provide equivalent of "10 per cent for our total energy consumption, 20 per cent of current gas consumption and it equals nine million tonnes worth of LNG import and export".
