Valve is getting back into shipping new games

Is this a good news? The founder stated Valve was doing triple-A single-player titles back in 2015, during a Reddit AMA with fans, and the engine Source 2 was announced on the same year at GDC.

Artifact is the first of several games that are going to be coming from us. Sure, that means a solid level of production quality when the game eventually releases, but future releases are probably still at least half a decade a way based on Valve's standard development speed.

No, there was no news on Half-Life 3, but if Valve comes back to software development and publishing, there's still a sliver of hope left. New skins, amiibo, and other peripherals to continue the hype of series that we love so much. "That really started to worry us", Newell stressed, "because we thought that the strength of the PC is about its openness. So we started to make some investments to offset that".

With Valve not releasing anything major for quite some time, it will be interesting to see what they will come up with their new expertise. It's that element of success, especially in the wake of the Nintendo Switch, that more and more companies are looking to Nintendo once more for inspiration, and Valve is no exception. Five years ago, we didn't have electrical engineers and people who know how to do robots. For the last decade or so Valve has focused on their online gaming and software store, Steam as well as making hardware for PC gaming.

After years of neglect, Google finally sells Zagat
Google added a new look to Zagat's website in 2016 after they bought Zagat. Google had bought Zagat for $151 million almost seven years ago.

As for why Valve moved away from games, Newell frankly said he was concerned about PCs becoming more of a closed system.

Valve is even a little jealous of companies like Nintendo, with Newell saying: "We've always been a little bit jealous of companies like Nintendo".

"When Miyamoto is sitting down and thinking about the next version of Zelda or Mario, he's thinking what is the controller going to look like, what sort of graphics and other capabilities", explained Newell. And he can make the hardware look as good as possible because he's designing the software at the same time.

"You can see that Microsoft was like, wow, how can we make Windows more like [Apple]?"
