Sherman, 49ers to meet Saturday

The Legion of Boom seems to be over in Seattle after the Seahawks released Richard Sherman on Friday. On Friday, 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan had dinner in Los Gatos with Sherman and his wife, The Athletic reported. The Seahawks saved $11 million against the 2018 salary cap by releasing Sherman.

Sherman is also expected to undergo a physical and meet with team doctors to talk about the Achilles tendon he tore a year ago, NFL Network reported.

Of course, this is all dependent on Sherman actually leaving Northern California without a contract.

Apparently, at least one other team has "reached out" as NFL Network's Tom Pelissero is reporting the cornerback will be meeting with the Lions next week.

The Seahawks had wanted Sherman to stay in 2018, but due to concerns of his age (he turns 30 later this month) and his Achilles injury had recently approached him about restructuring his contract and taking a pay cut.

Shiffrin wins World Cup slalom title
Shiffrin was a clear favorite to successfully defend her maiden overall title when she won the first five races of 2018. The World Cup finals begin Wednesday with women's and men's downhill, and the season concludes next Sunday.

The 29-year-old spent the first seven seasons of his National Football League career with the Seahawks, including their Super Bowl winning season of 2013.

"I want to go to a contender", Sherman said Friday on KIRO radio in Seattle. But some players, including former Panthers defenders Jon Beason and Charles Godfrey, needed two seasons before they returned to their pre-Achilles surgery form.

Sherman is now an unrestricted free agent and free to negotiate and sign with another team.

San Francisco started the offseason with a $137.5 million pact with impending free agent Jimmy Garoppolo. Since 2011, no player has more interceptions (32) or passes defensed (99) than Sherman, according to NFL Research.
