Trump's Military Parade Is Set For Veterans Day

Some had expressed doubts about tanks rolling through downtown Washington, D.C., raising fears about heavy machinery damaging roads.

Trump wanted the parade after seeing troops march during the Bastille Day parade in France during his visit past year.

The Pentagon said the parade will travel from the White House to the Capitol, and will feature a "heavy air component at the end".

CNN saw a Pentagon memo outlining plans for the demonstration, and apparently it will include "wheeled vehicles only" and no tanks.

The memo also noted that the parade should honor veterans service organizations, including the Medal of Honor Association, and "highlight the evolution of women" in the military.

First time in modern history, military parade will be held in Washington DC. The last time the U.S. saw such a parade was in the year 1991, when Saddam Hussein's Iraqi forces were thrown out of Kuwait in the Gulf War.

The memo, signed by Navy Capt. Hallock Mohler, executive secretary for the Office of the Secretary of Defense, confirms the parade is set to take place on Veterans Day, Nov. 11. Older aircraft will be included as available. First reports of plans for a parade came out last month when The Washington Post reported that Trump had met with high-ranking officials and told them he wanted a parade "like the one in France".

With tariffs, Trump reopens GOP split that had healed with tax reform
Trump says he's sticking with his initial plan for import tariffs of 25 percent on steel and 10 percent on aluminum. Canada and Mexico are exempt, and the White House has invited other nations to bargain for their own carveouts.

Northern Command, which oversees United States troops in North America, will execute the parade.

The parade Trump was referring to is the Bastille Day parade he attended a year ago in Paris.

The planned route for the parade will be from the White House to the Capitol Building, which is 1.8 miles long.

Trump was delighted by France's Bastille Day celebration during a visit to Paris last July, and praised the parade months later, saying, "We're going to have to try and top it".

His inaugural committee reportedly explored, but rejected, the idea of highlighting military equipment in his inaugural parade.

The parade will cost taxpayers up to $30 million, the White House budget chief has said.
