Venus Williams v Serena Williams: Indian Wells third round

Venus beat her younger sister last night in the third round of the BNP Paribas Open in a straight-sets 6-3 6-4 win.

Serena was playing in her first tournament since giving birth last September and faced her sister for the 29th time, with Venus winning all but four of their meetings.

And when Venus, accompanied by her father Richard, took her seat to watch her sister play Kim Clijsters in the final two days later, the atmosphere turned sour.

Venus told reporters that she never counted the 23-times grand slam champion out of the match.

Venus's victory also comes 17 years after an ugly booing incident led to a 14-year boycott of the tournament by the sisters.

"Obviously, I wish it was anybody else in the draw, literally anybody, but that's okay", Serena said ahead of the match.

"It's a huge difference to play her in the semi-finals or even the quarter-finals or a final as opposed to the third round".

Williams has said she spent "hours crying in the Indian Wells locker room" after the final, and would not return to the tournament until 2015.

Trump's Military Parade Is Set For Veterans Day
The Pentagon said the parade will travel from the White House to the Capitol, and will feature a "heavy air component at the end". His inaugural committee reportedly explored, but rejected, the idea of highlighting military equipment in his inaugural parade.

The fans' reaction in California came after Venus pulled out of her semifinal with Serena just before the tussle, citing a knee injury.

If you've been following Serena then you know she has always been killing it with her looks. "Seventeen years seems like forever ago".

When Serena is missing some of those shots, she says she isn't being as harsh on herself as in the past with her daughter in mind.

"I still have a lot to give".

Venus continued where she left off in the second set, breaking in the opening game before doing so again for a commanding 3-0 lead.

Stephens made four double faults and had her serve broken four times in the 77 minute match against the Russian 20-year-old.

Elina Svitolina was a shock loser to Carla Suarez Navarro, the Spaniard easing to a 7-5 6-3 win over the Ukrainian fourth seed.
