NZ among top 10 happiest nations

The researchers then analysed the perceived happiness levels in each country alongside data on six categories - GDP per capita, social support, healthy life, expectancy, social freedom, generosity, and absence of corruption - to look for potential reasons why people in certain areas may be happier than others.

"Four different countries have held top spot in the four most recent reports - Denmark, Switzerland, Norway and now Finland", reads the summary.

Finland was first followed by Norway, Denmark, Iceland and Switzerland.

The World Happiness Report, published Wednesday, studied the happiness levels of 156 countries.

A report that will soon be presented to the United Nations claims to rank the happiest-and unhappiest-countries in the world, and if you're looking to make a major move, you might want to keep it handy.

Finland's largest immigrant groups come from other European nations, but there also are communities from Afghanistan, China, Iraq and Somalia.

WWE star arrested in Concord
Hardy, along with his brother, Matt, have been multiple championship-winning professional wrestlers since the 1990's. Hardy was arrested for driving while intoxicated (DWI) after officials investigated the reason for the crash.

On the top of the happy heap this year is Finland.

New Zealand is listed as the eighth happiest nation on the planet, beating out Australia which came in at number 10.

Here's a reason to smile today: Canada is the seventh happiest place in the world, according to the annual World Happiness Report that was released this morning. This year, the report also measured and took into account the well-being of country's immigrants.

"In the Nordic countries in general, we pay some of the highest taxes in the world, but there is wide public support for that because people see them as investments in quality of life for all". The finding on the happiness of immigrants "shows the conditions that we live under matter greatly to our quality of life, that happiness is not only a matter of choice". Although set in a global context, most of the evidence and discussion are focused on the United States, where the prevalence of all three problems has been growing faster and further than in most other countries.

"America's subjective wellbeing is being systematically undermined by three interrelated epidemic diseases, notably obesity, substance abuse (especially opioid addiction) and depression", said Jeffrey Sachs, director of the Center for Sustainable Development at Columbia University in NY, and one of the report's authors. "The signs are not good for the U.S. It is getting richer and richer but not getting happier".

The UN agency had ranked Nigerians the 95th happiest people in the world in 2017, based on its statistics gathered between 2014 and 2016.
