Toys R Us founder Charles P Lazarus dies, aged 94

Toys R Us says on its customer frequently-asked-question page that it expects all 735 of its United States stores to begin sales Friday.

The goal is to raise US$1 billion, which will be used in a bid to acquire all or some Toys "R" Us assets through the bankruptcy process, according to a statement issued on billionaire Isaac Larian's behalf.

Larian and "various associates" chipped in $200 million for the campaign, leaving the other $800 million to customers. "I definitely remember it from when I was a kid, but there are better places to shop now", said Brady. There are bidders who have expressed interest in buying out the stores. Toys "R" Us recently announced it's closing its stores after 70 years in business.

"You're going to see some of the same toys at Toys R' Us, but we offer specialty toys you've probably never seen", says Stone.

As parents began to ask for toys, the American entrepreneur met their demand and in 1957 the business evolved into the famous toy store.

As the liquidation sale is underway, the store announced all sales are final.

Toys R Us sought court approval last week to liquidate its remaining USA stores, threatening the jobs of some 30,000 employees and spelling the end for a chain known to generations of children and parents for its sprawling stores, sing-along jingle and Geoffrey the giraffe mascot.

Lazarus, the World War II veteran who founded Toys "R" Us six decades ago and transformed it into a giant empire which symbolised the great America at it's finest.

"There is nothing quite like the joy and awe of a child walking through the aisles of a Toys "R" Us store. Even though they are small now, we have memories for the future as far as the pictures go", said Ashmore.

Then last week, the chain announced that it would close all of its USA stores.

The industry has also lost millions to Toys "R" Us, including Larian's Van Nuys, Calif. -based MGA, which is owed about $12 million, according to court filings.

With about $11 billion in annual sales, the chain failed to keep pace with consumers' increasing shift to online shopping, and Toys R Us also was saddled with $5 billion of debt stemming from its buyout in 2005 by a trio of investment firms that took the company private. He began selling toys after a couple of years when customers began asking for them, and he quickly concluded that, in the baby-boom years, toys were a more lucrative business than furniture.
