Man Killed In Apartment Fire At Trump Tower In New York City

"It was ruled under control around 9 p.m., two hours after it was originally reported... six firefighters suffered injuries that are not life threatening". At the time the building was constructed, the city didn't require every unit have sprinklers, so this unit didn't have one.

A firefighter looks out from the window of a fire damaged apartment in Trump Tower in NY on Saturday, April 7, 2018.

"The rest of the building had a considerable amount of smoke", the New York City Fire Department said. "Firemen (and women) did a great job", the president wrote on Twitter at 6:42 p.m.

Some fire-safety advocates pushed for a requirement that older apartment buildings be retrofitted with sprinklers when New York City passed a law requiring them in new residential highrises in 1999, but officials in the administration of then-mayor Rudy Giuliani said that would be too expensive.

On Saturday, a fire was ignited at Trump Tower in Manhattan.

The building houses apartments and office space.

The New York Times reported that resident Dennis Shields only knew to leave the building because he received a text from Trump's lawyer, Michael Cohen, who Shields says he grew up with Cohen.

Kyrie Irving To Miss 4-5 Months With Knee Surgery
Irving reflected on the news in an Instagram post Thursday and wrote, "This season was only a snapshot of what's to come from me". Despite that, Irving and the talented Celtics' roster managed to stay in contention for the top seed in the Eastern Conference.

Multiple street closures slowed foot and auto traffic surrounding the tower, from East 55th Street to East 57th Street from Fifth Avenue to Madison Avenue, according to officials.

The cause of the late afternoon fire was still being investigated, but Nigro noted that the apartment belonging to art dealer Todd Brassner, who later died in a hospital, was "virtually entirely on fire", when city firefighters arrived.

Trump Tower's fire-suppression systems were up to code, and there were no violations witnessed, an FDNY source said.

NY fire commissioner Donald Nigro said the 50th floor apartment was "virtually entirely on fire". According to Nigro, 200 firefighters and EMS personnel responded to the scene.

Requested if this assessment was true, Nigro claimed, "It's a well-built construction".

The commissioner said firefighters went with the Secret Service to inspect the president's residence.

Lalitha Masson, a 76-year-old resident, called it "a very, very terrifying experience".
