Srinagar:An armyman and a civilian were killed and two armymen were injured on Wednesday during an encounter with militants in Jammu and Kashmir's Kulgam district, officials said.

Police said that in ongoing encounter at Khudwani area of Kulgam.One Army personnel identified as Sepoy S. Gunakar Roy No. 16121860/K who was injured in the gunfight succumbed to his injuries and attained martyrdom.

The operation was carried out at Wani Mohall, after security forces cordoned off the area at 11pm.

Meanwhile, violent clashes are going on in the area with local residents indulging in dingdong stone battles with the forces.

The locals alleged that the Army fired indiscriminately into the protesting crowds, but a statement issued by the police here said that the civilians were caught in crossfire. Medical sources said that at least 82 people suffered injuries out of which Four civilians succumbed to their injuries.

As per latest reports, the house where the terrorists were hiding was destroyed while two others caught fire when the security forces used heavy explosives.
