Over 100 million people now have Amazon Prime Music

We no longer must infer anything, with Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos clearly stating in the annual shareholder letter Amazon sends out that the company has 100 million paid Prime members.

Bezos also confirmed Wednesday that Amazon expects Prime to soon be a factor in its Whole Foods grocery stores, after the e-commerce company acquired the brick-and-mortar chain for $13.7 billion a year ago (http://www.marketwatch.com/story/amazon-to-buy-whole-foods-for-137-billion-2017-06-16-91035726).

Bezos added Amazon has begun the technical work for Prime members to receive benefits at Whole Foods stores, after the company acquired the grocery chain for $13.7 billion in 2017.

"Prime Day 2017 was our biggest global shopping event ever (until surpassed by Cyber Monday), with more new Prime members joining Prime than any other day in our history", he said.

The letter also offered some insight into the company's operations in India, where both Amazon and Walmart are said to be mulling an acquisition of homegrown e-tailer Flipkart.

Included in the fees are Prime Video, free two-day shipping from Amazon, unlimited music streaming, unlimited photo storage, unlimited reading, and free same-day delivery in some areas. Amazon expanded Prime to Mexico, Singapore, the Netherlands and Luxembourg in 2017, Bezos said. Previously, Amazon vaguely referred to having "tens of millions of members".

Wednesday's letter to shareholders also mentioned that the company's smart speaker products have also been selling well. This is not the case with Amazon Prime. Consumer intelligence research has shown that Amazon Prime members shop on the site almost twice as often as non-prime members.

Amazon have revealed how many Prime members they have for the first time ever and it is a lot of people. "If low standards prevail, those too will quickly spread".

Amazon likes to boast about its prowess in job creation, and the company's workforce has exploded in recent years.

In 2017, Amazon celebrated the 10-year anniversary of Frustration-Free Packaging, the first of several sustainable packaging initiatives that have eliminated more than 244,000 tons of packaging materials over the past 10 years.

Best known as an online retail colossus, Amazon has the leading system for hosting services or content in the cloud and is the force behind the Alexa digital assistant being built into a wide array of devices.
