Mass child sacrifice found in Peru

According to an exclusive report by National Geographic which was released on Thursday, the skeletal remains of more than 140 children and 200 baby llamas were found in Peru, country's northern coast.

The cliff is located just outside the northwestern coastal city of Trujillo, Peru's third largest city which today has 800,000 inhabitants.

The sacrificial site overlooking the ocean To understand a bit more about what happened 550 years ago, we have to go back in time to examine what we do know about the Chimu people.

Some ancient cultures in America practiced human sacrifice, including the Maya, Aztecs and Incas, who conquered the Chimu Empire in the late 15th century.

Archaeologists in Peru have uncovered what may be world's largest single incident of mass child sacrifice in history.

"They were possibly offering the gods the most important thing they had as a society, and the most important thing is children because they represent the future", said Gabriel Prieto, an archaeology professor at Peru's National University of Trujillo, who has led the excavation, along with John Verano of Tulane University. The baby llamas were buried facing east, toward the high peaks of the Andes.

Wenger announced last week that he's leaving the north London club in the summer after nearly 22 years in charge. If he respects me even 50 per cent of what I respect him we can even be friends in the future.

According to Prieto, researchers also found footprints that have survived rain and erosion and he said that the small footprints indicate the children were marched to their deaths from the ancient city of Las Llamas - Chan Chan, for about approximately 1 mile.

The positioning the place the kids and child llamas have been discovered has been below excavation since 2011, when the positioning first made headlines after the invention of 42 kids and 76 llamas throughout an emergency dig.

The condition of the remains suggests the children had incurred cuts to the sternum and rib dislocations for the removal of their hearts. Most societal models that look at human sacrifice, however, are based on the ritual killing of adults, says Joseph Watts, a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Oxford and the Max Planck Institute for the Science of Human History.

In the grave were found the remains of 140 children.

"People sacrifice that which is of most and greatest value to them", Klaus explained to the National Geographic.

In the layers of sediment at the site, researchers found evidence that the region had experienced severe rainfall and flooding around the same time as the sacrifices, likely due to elevated sea temperatures from an El Niño event. But the mass sacrifice of children is something that has rarely been documented. "Maybe there was a need for a new type of sacrificial victim". They had all apparently died of violent head wounds, and it is surmised they may have participated in the sacrifices.
