Barn Explosion In Connecticut Leaves Eight Injured

A barn behind a house in CT exploded Wednesday night while police and a SWAT team were negotiating with a man who had taken his wife and family hostage, leaving at least six officers injured, state police and a town official said.

None of the injuries to the officers were considered life-threatening, the Associated Press reports.

According to the North Haven First Selectman Mike Freda, 6 officers were injured in the explosion. The police "were trying to coax him ... out of the house and really try to calm the situation down. Then things took a turn for the worse with an explosion".

It was not immediately known if any children were in the home or barn, Freda said.

A North Haven town official says officers responded to the home earlier in the day and were trying to coax the man out when the explosion happened.

The suspect's wife apparently managed to escape the house during the explosions, but it remains unclear whether other family members remain inside.

Andres Iniesta: Barcelona has given everything to me
One time manager, Pep Guardiola , was quoted to have told Xavi when he saw Iniesta that he would retire them both. "For me, Barca is the best club in the world - this club has given me everything".

The blaze was still burning early Thursday, fire officials said, adding that power was out in the neighborhood and a local firehouse had been set up as a "refuge" for affected residents.

The roads surrounding the residence remain closed off.

Freda said that the officers suffered cuts, abrasions, and bruises, and were treated at Yale New Haven hospital. According to reports, she filed for divorce last month. The explosion occurred as police and a SWAT team were outside dealing with a report of a barricaded person related to a domestic violence incident.

Residents near the home reported on the police department's Facebook page that they heard the explosion and felt their own homes shake. Connecticut State Police are on the scene to assist North Haven Police.
