An alligator collision killed a mom and her two young kids on Interstate 95 in SC early Monday morning, The Washington Post noted. The auto then ran off the road, hit a tree and caught fire, officials say.

Amber Stanley, 24, was driving along the stretch of road with her 4-year-old son and 2-year-old daughter at around 1 a.m. when she struck the alligator crossing the northbound lane. Amber Stanley along with also her children were killed Monday when their vehicle hit an alligator.

Andrew Grosse, an alligator biologist with the Department of Natural Resources, said alligators tend to move around during April and May because it's the peak of mating season. "I'll go, 'That's Amber.' And I know it's not", he continued.
