'I won't resign until ANC PEC tells me to'

He did not say what the letter would contain, but many assumed the Premier had buckled under intense pressure and was resigning.

Mahumalepo on Wednesday alleged a political conspiracy to remove him on "spurious, concocted" grounds.

North West residents recently took to the streets in violent protests demanding that Mahumapelo resign amid corruption allegations leveled against him.

The healthcare system was brought to its knees following a strike by the National Education Health and Allied Union (Nehawu) members on February 19.

Mahumapelo has also indicated that he will be visiting branches around the province as part of this process.

But on Wednesday he said the ANC would have to ask him to leave.

A news report aired by CNBC said the YJ-12B anti-ship cruise missiles allowed China to strike vessels within 295 nautical miles.

"(Mahumapelo) was instructed to withdraw his resignation comments. he commented without even informing the party", Dantjie said, adding that there was no resign for Mahumapelo to resign now because "he did not appoint himself (but) was deployed by the ANC".

It remains unclear how long Mahumapelo is expected to be on leave.

This, the party said, was a mistake which was corrected after an urgent PEC meeting on Wednesday.

Although he did not chastise Ramaphosa, he claimed people around the president wanted to punish those who did not support his bid to become president of the ANC at the party's watershed conference.

"Having a PEC where he is still captain of the ship...they will still dictate whom they want as MEC's so the fight is not over yet", he said.

The chair is set to be placed on special leave while the inter-ministerial committee completes its investigation into the state of the province.
