UNHCR spokeswoman Marixie Mercado told a news conference in Geneva on Tuesday that 250,000 children had fled Myanmar for Bangladesh. Many of them are likely to be targeted for radicalisation by ISI/ISIS and other extremists groups. Facing a mass influx of Rohingyas from Myanmar , Bangladesh called on the global community to intervene and put pressure on Myanmar to address the exodus. (more...)

Announcing itself with roaring 130 mph winds, Hurricane Irma plowed into the mostly emptied-out Florida Keys early Sunday for the start of what could be a slow, ruinous march up the state's west coast toward the Tampa-St. It is expected the number will grow as the hurricane hits the state. Gas and water have largely dried up as locals scrambled to stock up, and flights out of Miami International Airport have been mostly canceled. (more...)

The No. 15 seed beat Estonia's Kaia Kanepi 6-3, 6-3 on Wednesday to reach the semifinals of a Grand Slam tournament for the second time. 'I know how tough it is to get a grand-slam title. Stephens only returned to the tour at Wimbledon after almost a year out with a foot injury. "She played unbelievable points in the end".
