Qatar's normally bustling border with Saudi Arabia was deserted on Monday. The tiny, oil- and gas-rich Gulf emirate is dependent on imports by land and sea for the basic needs of its population of 2.7 million. The scale and economic importance of the airline's UAE operation are not far behind that of Saudi Arabia. For Qatar Airways, this means the airline will have to go through the expensive process of rerouting its Africa-bound flights to avoid the Arabian Peninsula. (more...)
